TALK DOESN’T COOK THE RICE
By Felix | January 18, 2008
I had a very interesting meeting today with my mentor to access my goals for the year and what my five year plans also look like, first I got an email, telling me how to write this down, covering all sectors of my life or should I say my company that I am the CEO of, FELIX EKPA UNLIMITED as he put it.
Interestingly something’s that I am already aware of that I even preach, were preached back to me again, and it was like I was hearing them again for the first time, I got to realize during the course of this meeting, the real intention behind it, it was not because he didn’t know that I will have good goals and I will be focused enough to achieve them, or if I needed help in achieving them I wont get it, it was beyond that.
He looked at my 5year targets and to him it looked more like what I could achieve in one year, now he was not trying to tell me that my plans were too small, on the contrary, these were things that if I was ready to stretch myself, I could achieve in one year, now on the 31st of dec. when I was in church my financial goal for the end of this year was what when it came down to penning it down, I set it as my 5year goal. I let fear of failure set in. This is a topic I we will discuss another day. I felt I was aiming to high,… I was wrong, because according to my mentor… “You might not get there, but you’ll work like you want to get there” … deolu akinyemi and we tried a little experiment with it today, we had a few marketers working with us and they were given targets of talking to 30people daily, now because for the past 1week this had been there target, they were always delivering based on that number and when they were asked this morning ideas on how they can work the numbers up to 100, some said it was not possible, while some started bringing up ideas and by the time the meeting was over, they all agreed that they could do more, interestingly, 2hrs later one came back and she had phone nos. and email addresses of 57people she had talked to and 32 of these were willing to be a part of the program, another came back less than 4hrs later and had already done 113 and came for more materials to go and do more, now why are they suddenly surpassing the numbers they saw as difficult before, the answer is simple, it was brought into their awareness that it was possible and you never know “if you aim for the sun and miss, you might hit the moon”… deolu akinyemi and because of how big the moon will look, people will actually think you hit your target and celebrate you.
I needed to practice what I preached, the hunger with which I burned last year and shattered my goals and became a champion is all I need to set any goal and get it.
What did it take… a burning desire to be the best to achieve more, a hunger to have more and burning all the bridges knowing that I had no safety net or back up plan, its was either I succeeded or I succeeded, I came all out, i looked failure in the eye and said you can bring me down but you cant keep me down, the more it looked like it wasn’t going to work out, the more effort I put in, because I was unrepentantly optimistic… and today people are asking, how did you do it? My simple answer is… “talk doesn’t cook the rice”… Chinese proverb
I guess that’s a question I will have to answer in details another day, bottom line is the meeting turned out fantastic, I heard new stories which I will share in due course and my fire was rekindled and I feel like timaya, cos I dey hot like fire!
Quick words to push you this weekend before I go, Knowing is not enough, we must apply, Willing is not enough, we must do…. Bruce Lee
Don’t be afraid of failure, because there are great lessons to learn from our failures, and it is a vital part of life and keep pushing till the door is open, because if you can think it then it can be done, that’s how man was designed, else how did Thomas Edison keep trying to discover the electric bulb after failing 10,000times, I tell you, he had a mind set of “ impossible is nothing”.

Not failure, but low aim, is a crime. The Lord gave us two ends - one to sit on and the other to think with. Success depends on which one we use the most.

Well,
Today’s decisions are tomorrow’s reality. Decide
We must not let what we can do, interfere with what we can do. Prioritize
Keeping the tools unlocked we can work quickly and work whenever. Hurry
Impossible is indeed nothing if we truly believe. Believe
Thanks for the push. Charge

Things we are committed to do by reason of penning it down and letting someone who will hold us accountable know about it one way or the other gets done faster than we imagined.
Good work

I totally agree with you there is a need to plan and aim big. My attitude to life which I believe has helped me thus far is to Aim big, plan out a strategy to accomplish it which will require i start Small and inorder to reach it in due time I always start Now. I notice that when I start small and start immediately it gives me the opportunity to evaluate my strategies regularly and if there is a need to restructure / redefine my strategy of reaching my target, I am able to do so. I also will not fail to mention that HIS touch had been THE distinguishing factor
