    Never Say Die!

    By Felix | May 6, 2008

determination.jpgAnother whole week of not writing, I must apologies to all who have taken out time in your busy schedule to come here and find nothing new, I will try not allow laziness keep me from feeding the blog as usual. I read this beautiful story last week and thought to share it, as it inspired me into taking charge this week.

Before we go into the story I also want to say share a few things I learnt over the past very busy week I had, but that will not be in this post, hints are I have learned the secret to becoming and achieving anything you want in life and this is not one those motivational talks you feel you have heard before, as some of us have actually used this to achieve some things in our lives, but have not taken out time to understand that these were the steps we took, unknowingly that got us to where we  are today.

I will be sharing it in summary with you here before the end of the week and for the most frequent visitors and commentators on the site I will be sending a DVD to you with the full package in it, this will be available to only the first 5 that indicate interest after I have shared in summary what I learnt. For now let’s use the little dose of determination I learnt this past week and see if it can make a difference.

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.

    “We told them so.”
“Crazy men and their crazy dreams.”
“It`s foolish to chase wild visions.”

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.

He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.

It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife’s arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.

For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife’s arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man’s indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.

Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude that overcomes a terrible physical handicap and achieves an impossible goal.

Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realised with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are.

Even the most distant dream can be realized with determination and persistence.

      Hello,

I guess this will be my first comment on your blog but believe you me, i don’t fail to come over everyday of the week (except weekends ofcourse).

That said, every single post i have read on this blog has been motivating and inspiring, very inspiring. Sometimes i just feel enough strength to face the fiercest opposition. you know, like something grabs you and shakes you up.(i guess these letters can’t and won’t do justice to that expression)

This post especially has helped me to reawaken a dream that i was letting go of due to some challenges- which i now know is a proof that you are headed somewhere-and the excuse of “being safe than sorry”.

Anyway, am gathering momentum now, let the Nigeria and the world watch out for me.

      God bless you Felix.

people may fail many times, but they become losers only when they begin to blame some1 else for their faileur.Experince is determined by yourself-and not the circumstance of ur life..

Courage is the best weapon we can use to conquer battles.Remember learning to walk? first u tried standing on shaky limbs, smiled in short lived triumph, kept falling down, cried in frustration,n got back until u mastered the art of standing.Something inside you told u that u were meant for more than just lying in a crib.then came d nxt stage ;WALKING.Sounds simple enough;but it wasn’t..So d battle went on n on.

Courage comes from spending tym with GOD,seeing his arms outstretched towards u n hearing him say,’COME ON U CAN DO IT,I’M WITH U.

WHAT BETA ARSENAL VE WE GOT IN LIFE OTHER THAN:COURAGE,FAITH N HOPE..THESE MIGHT SEEM TO BI MERE VIRTUES BUT DIS R WEAPONS OF VICTORY MONEY,FAME,POWER,N TALENT CANNOT BUY..

NEVER lose focus on the true meaning of life,NOT all have the ability to read and understand words, not all have the ability to learn how to walk, not all are given that gift of being called normal, many dont adapt and are known as handicap, will never understand the “normal” ways of lust for what this world can provide, and not all of us were put here on this earth to help others gain financial wealth, know your gift and accept it with passion, be thankful for the knowledge of knowing the TRUE meaning of life YOUR life not what you feels others should be doing or how others should be living, unless you have lived every day in your brothers foot steps then and only then will you understand why someone is the way they are. LIFE makes us who we become, the challenges and struggles build our character and how we handle life. know your gift and why you are here for life is very short and there are no guarintees that tomorrow will come. Have faith in things u can not see, never lose hope, and LOVE always… xxx hagd

Sometimes to acheive your dreams u must learn to stop listening to noisy negatives, maybe we should know where patience stops and longsuffering takes over, holding on until the daylight breaks on your dreams.
      Another good one Felix
