    Lessons From The Geese

    By Felix | June 27, 2008

flying-geese.gifI came across the goose story first on my mentor’s site, sometime last year and again on a few other sites, when I was doing some research on team building. It’s amazing what birds with small brains as we say can develop to aid themselves into building a community with a common sense and purpose. I learned a few lesson on values from these birds and I think when you read through the story, you will come up with a few I didn’t mention.

Inspirational modeling, self-awareness, loyalty, clear communication, honesty, ongoing accomplishment, empathy, love and kindness, to mention but a few on values. I also learned that sometimes we need to look at our environment and learn from the creations of the Almighty.

    Enjoy…

    Next
    fall, when
    you see Geese
    heading South for
    the Winter, flying along
    in V formation, you might
    consider what science has dis-
covered as to why they fly that way:
as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an
uplift for the bird immediately following. By
flying in V formation the whole flock adds at least
71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

People who share a common direction and sense of community
can get where they are going more quickly and easily
because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

    When
    a goose falls
    out of formation,
    it suddenly feels the drag
and resistance of trying to go it alone
and quickly gets back into formation to take
advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.

If we have as much sense as a goose,
    we will stay in formation
with those who are headed the same way we are.

    When
    the Head Goose
    gets tired, it rotates back
in the wing and another goose flies point.

It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs
with people or with geese flying South.

    Geese
    honk from behind to
encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

What do we say when we honk from behind?

    Finally,
    and this is important,
when a goose gets sick, or is
wounded by gunshots and falls out
of formation, two other geese fall out with that
goose and follow it down to lend help and protection.
They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly, or until
it dies. Only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation
to catch up with their group.

IF WE HAVE THE SENSE OF A GOOSE,
WE WILL STAND BY EACH OTHER
    LIKE THAT.

Very intresting info i live where Geese are abundance and i’ll bet that 80 percent of those that live with geese have no idea that is why they fly in that pattern.. we always say as a joke.. why is one side of geese flight longer then the other ? cuz there are more birds on that side. lol.. so ty for that info.. now on the lesson here.. Most in life dont want to be bothered with others problems and when one falls and needs help MOST will walk and not turn and look back leaving the fallen to fend for themselves. Our world has gotten so caught up in being independent of others that they dont want to take what time or resources they have to help out those in need, sad fact, back in biblical times whole cities would share with grain, crops, help eachother out when needed . now days most are only out to better themselves and dont want to be bothered with others mishaps. Guess i see this in a different way then most due to me living and breathing my every effort for my handicap daughter “that broken down goose” that wasnt blessed with the ability to do as others do, So i would be that one Goose that stays behind and helps her to the best of her abilities, but along with that i see how selfish human hearts can be with not wanting to be bothered with helping out one that needs help. Takes all kinds of people to make a world and if we were all the say how truly boring of a world it would be.. we all have a gift and a purpose here, find out what your job is and do it to the best of YOUR ability, I know my job and purpose in life, just wish more in the world would figure out what theirs is, I SAY to those… You who feel the need to turn away when another needs help, you who feel the need to have a high social statice, you who feel the need to have that large bank account, and you who feel the need to look down upon those that arent like you,,, only truly show insecurities in your character.. no one is greater then another we all put our pant legs on one at a time and will all leave this earth,, Stop the self gain it doesnt make you who you are your soul does your heart and how you treat others,, take the time to help out another in need,, learn how to swollow your pride,, and never forget that you someday may need that help you turned from….wink xx

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.
Alone we can do so little;but when we come together and work hand in hand, just like the Goose flying along in V formation, we can do so much.
