One more candle…
By Felix | October 14, 2008
There is a story of identical twins. One was a hope-filled optimist. “Everything is coming up roses!” The other was a said and hopeless pessimist. He thought that Murphy, as in Murphy’s Law, was an optimist. The worried parents of the boys brought them to the local psychologist.
He suggested to the parents a plan to balance the twins’ personalities. “On their next birthday, put them in separate rooms to open their gifts. Give the pessimist the best toys you can afford, and give the optimist a box of manure”. The parents followed these instructions and carefully observed the results.
When they peeked in on the pessimist, they heard him audibly complaining, “I don’t like the color of this computer…I’ll bet this calculator will break…I don’t like this game…I know someone who’s got a bigger toy car than this…”
Tiptoeing across the corridor, the parents peeked in and saw their little optimist gleefully throwing the manure up in the air. He was giggling. “You can’t fool me! Where there’s this much manure, there’s gotta be a pony!”
When working or handling a project or whatever endeavor it is you are pursuing, you have to keep an optimists attitude to make it work, you have to believe in what you are doing or the people you are working with.
In my last post, I might have sounded like the problems on the streets is blowing out of proportion (I was only sating the facts), but the truth is there are still a lot of boys on the streets who have seen how to get into yahoo plus and decided not to tow that line, making it the more reason why something has to be done before the negative influence around them rub off on them.
I have been meaning to write this article as when I chatted with a friend on the street that is a member of street skills network, he was bursting with enthusiasm and pride at being able to do try his hands on something that can fetch him legitimate earnings. A few weeks ago, I told him about attending a seminar where he can learn how to couple inverters and solar panels for alternative power supply, as the market potential for this is very big due to the crippling state of our erratic power supply here, in my bid to convince him about the opportunity that lay ahead if he could attend this training, I told him I’ll have nothing to do with him again if he didn’t as we were very close in my street days and since we still see very often, it was getting more uncomfortable for me to be around him, since he wasn’t representing what I stand for.
Anyways to cut the long story short, I paid him a visit a couple of days ago and to my awe, he did attend the training and was bursting with excitement telling me how the training went well and how he was actually the most notable student of the course because of the barrage of questions he was throwing at the facilitators and this was because he wanted to learn it well and be a master at it since he was getting into a skilled job that will take him off the streets, he even went ahead to buy the D.V.D’s on it and told me he watches it every other day and keeps in touch with the facilitators to ask questions where he didn’t understand.
Needless to say, I was very proud of him and excited at how enthused he was about it and nearly came to tears when he gave me hug and said “Thank You” for the opportunity, he even came to my house a few days after that to check out the connections on the one I have at home, so to be see if the connection was the same with what he had learned, he has also gone ahead to partner with a very good electrician, who will handle the electrical works and connections while he fixes the inverters and if need be the solar panels. He is making sure to put all the loose ends together from experience on the streets, if your scam is going to be good, you have to be prepared at all angles, and that is a skill I didn’t teach him, but a skill he learned on the streets now being applied legitimately.
I have a few similar cases like this that have turned a new leaf and are willing to do it legit now and I know as more opportunities present themselves, many more will go legit. If this one and the few others are the only ones that have changed with the birth of Street Skills, I am happy and Thankful to God for the insight to go about the project and I know a lot more can be done if more chapters are started and driven around the country.
I am also using this article as and advertorial for those who are interested in putting an inverter as an alternative power supply for the homes or companies with a full one year guaranty and service after sale, please click here and I will link you up with my friend.
